Selipsky's Planned Departure and AWS's Growth

Selipsky, who previously led AWS from 2012 to 2016 before departing for Tableau, returned to Amazon in 2021 to take the helm again. According to Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, Selipsky's return was envisioned as a temporary move to prepare the next generation of AWS leadership.

Jassy highlighted AWS's strong performance under Selipsky, reaching a $100 billion annual revenue run rate and exceeding expectations in the most recent quarter. With AWS in a "strong position," Selipsky is stepping down.

Matt Garman's AWS Journey

Garman, who started at Amazon as an intern in 2005, has held various leadership roles within AWS. He initially led all AWS Compute services before transitioning to the sales and marketing side in 2020, overseeing areas like customer support and professional services.

Looking Ahead: Transition and Potential Changes

As Garman assumes the CEO role on June 3rd, he acknowledges the need for "organizational adjustments" to maintain AWS's momentum in innovation and growth.
